"NO! I slept too loooooooong!" - a review by timchuma

It's an indeterminate time after the end of the world, and as the voice-over states, 'reality is a failure'. The future inhabitants of the Earth spend all their time plugged into a 'dream machine' (via a serial port in their necks no less) by the mysterious corporation, Infinisyth.

If you're thinking, 'Wait! This sounds like a rip off of The Matrix (1999)!' you're wrong, this film was released in 1990, years before it was determined that Keanu Reeves could act.

Back to the story. Judy lives in a chamber with her mother, spending most of her time plugged in and only waking up to eat and go to the toilet. After spending years of her life like this, she begins to crave reality and 'gets hassled by the Sysop' (don't we all).

After devising a cunning plan and invading her mother's dream, the Sysop tells her if she wants reality, she's going to get it.

She wakes up to find something bad has happened and is taken by the security guards, put in a bag and drugged. When she wakes up, she has to dig herself out of the dirt. Finding herself in a wasteland she falls down a hole, only to by rescued by two mutant creatures called Crawlers (on their tractor no less).

Her joy turns to terror when the Crawlers tie her up, then put a rag in her mouth after she refuses to eat the human arm that they offer her politely. Cue the hero who shoots one of them with a crossbow, then has a fight with another one of them. During the struggle, Judy manages to free herself, only to collapse.

Seeing this, the hero says "If you don't cover up, you'll die" and removes his hood, it's ASH! (Bruce Campbell) No, not really, his name is Stover and he has lived on the surface for as long as he can remember.

Retiring to a cabin in the woods, Stover and Judy get 'acquainted' and he teaches her some things about life 'on the surface', he doesn't like the fact that 'her kind' retreated underground 'when the ice came' after the nuclear war, but is he is willing to help her.

After only a short time, the Deadites, I mean Crawlers burst into the cabin and drag them underground into the old rubbish tip they are living in, where Stover is forced to dig up garbage and Judy is tied up and has her clothes taken off her for some reason.

At this point, the movie take on a horror twist and starts to become more gruesome, but I'll leave you to find out what happens.

I'll have to admit that I am biased, even though this movie was crap I'd still watch it because it has Bruce Campbell in it. Luckily, it turns out to be a pretty good movie, and even though Bruce doesn't get to use a chainsaw in it, I still like it. (He does say some things that sound like he should have said them in The Evil Dead (1982) though).

I would recommend this movie to people who like science fiction and horror movies as it is a good mix of both genres.

timchuma gives this movie 6 out of 10.
