"Predictably disastrous" - a review by mino

Sextasy is a German short film about a young girl who, after hemming and hawing about whether the time's right to lose her virginity, decides to do it in style, using techniques of Tantric sex she's heard about from her schoolfriends. While her long-suffering boyfriend is ecstatic about the idea, things don't go according to plan.

While the idea has some potential to make a funny short, unfortunately Sextasy is just an excuse to set up some patently unfunny jokes and some slapstick ‘disaster’ comedy that is not only merely mildly amusing at best, but so horribly obvious that each and every joke can not only be seen coming, they can be seen boarding the plane at Templehoff Airport, Berlin, on their way here (with a stopover in Kuala Lumpur).

As with so many short films, I think the filmmaker has thought ‘oh, this should be easy, ja? How hard can it be to come up with enough jokes to fill der fünf minuten?’, without realising how difficult it is to make a good short film. Unfunny, uninteresting, and really quite weak.

mino gives this movie 3 out of 10.

"Stoopid" - a review by pearly

Sextasy is a German short film, in which Sophie (Rebecca Mosselmann), overhears some girls discussing tantric sex, and decides to read up on it and then to lose her virginity in the most amazing way she can think of. But nothing quite goes to plan.

I think this film is meant to be a funny little romp, giving you a few laughs and then sending you on your way. I didn't find it to be particularly funny though; nothing beyond a kind of "heh" grunt, anyway. It reminded me a little of Girls on Top (2001), both because it was German, and also because of the subject matter. This comparison doesn't work in its favour.

I guess Sextasy was a bit of fun, but I'd rather get my helpings of fun in other ways.

pearly gives this movie 4 out of 10.
