"Out-of-watchability" - a review by pearly

The screening of pentuphouse which I attended was unfortunately using a dodgy copy of the film, in which the audio and the visuals were out-of-sync by about 2 seconds. When we were staying in a hotel in Hong Kong, and the only channel in English language suffered from the same problem. I found it unwatchable, and although I sat through this film, I simply couldn't get a real idea of what I thought of it with such distractions.

It's a bit of a shame, because it looked to be the most narrative of Cate Shortland's short films. It certainly had the most (English language) dialogue. If it'd been Strap on Olympia (1995) that had had this problem, it wouldn't have mattered nearly as much.

Anyway, the film is about a junkie, Dale (Aaron Blabey), who is constantly hocking his girlfriend Dellah's (Gillian Jones) stuff, and making up with her by promising to take her to exotic Queensland locations for holidays - promises which are never kept. And so, Dellah decides to get her revenge.

For the reasons already mentioned, I can't really give this a proper rating, however, I think it was a little too generic for my liking. The junkie-speak may have been interesting if it hadn't already been eclipsed by David Wenham's character in Gettin' Square (2003) (as was accurately pointed out to me by jud).

pearly gives this movie 5 out of 10.
