"Tormenting? Maybe just the acting" - a review by em_fiction

(see Nerd Boy (2004) for Top screen introduction)

Tormenting Gloria Johnson - Qiao Li
10 minutes
Swinburne University of Technology, Prahran

"Gloria has been stepped on all her life. Erratic, unusual and a bit weird, for Gloria things must come to a head. This is a day no one in Gloria's life will forget."

Gloria wakes up late and finds that her mum has already left, so she has to walk to school. Several shitty things happen to her at school, including expulsion, so she decides to retaliate.

Although it was definitely one of the better top screen entries, it still wasn't tops. The acting was pretty much no good, especially the ugly boyfriend whose constant swearing was so gratuitous that even I was shocked. That's another thing: the swearing. Okay, fair enough, slip in a few "fucks", make it a bit more corrupt, but for God's sake, make it sound natural. And the ending was just slightly clichéd — read that last line in the top screen synopsis for more information. One thing I did like about the film was the way it was made: well. Camera, sound, editing, lighting, etc. all worked perfectly, considering the limitations of the resources.

And no, I don't know why a Uni student was able to submit his work into a Year 12 program.

em_fiction gives this movie 5 out of 10.
