The doll house - Daniel Bronsema
6 minutes 30 seconds
Salesian College, Sunbury
"Juxtaposition and montage are used to construct an ambiguous story of a young girl's fragmented memories. The use of old movie footage adds a layer of dread to this important work."
If you read the top screen synopsis, you'll see that they call this film "ambiguous". That's a euphemism for "makes absolutely no fucking sense whatsoever". And it's also acknowledged as an "important" work. I'm not sure whether the person who wrote that was bribed, blackmailed or was on a good dose of crack, because undersized distorted images of flowers and doll houses repeated about twenty million times is something I'm pretty sure I could live without.
No, seriously, there's a fine line between conveying a profound message through distorted medium and
being a total pretentious artsy-fartsy wanker. Bronsema unfortunately wasn't quick enough on the brakes and crossed it. About seventy metres too far. The Mirror-Father-Mirror video from Ghost World (2001) made more sense. Sorry Dan, try harder. Or less hard. In fact, just don't try at all. |
