I won't discuss the film. It was a shit film. Fuck it. Let's talk about something else.

You know what I love? Hot Shots! (1991). That was a great film. Dead set hilarious. That, and The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988), and Flying High (1980)... all fantastic films. But whatever happened to the spoof genre? No, seriously, what the fuck happened to it? I was lovin' it one second, and then the next second: Not Another Teen Movie (2001).

I have deduced why this genre went steeply downhill; it was because all these new spoof directors don't know shit about making it work. What is it with all this gratuitously disgusting, gross-out, vile humour? We don't need it. I mean, I don't mind if I have to throw up, just so long as I'm laughing the joke, preferably verbal or visually implied; not fucking hosed out at me in the form of faeces, seminal fluid, piddle, or disgorgement.

I don't remember once, when the genre pioneered, that masters like David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Pat Proft ever needed to make a direct, painfully graphic reference to scatology in order to reel in one or two cheaply-earned laughs. No, their humour was much more tasteful, and it earned aisles of laughter. Using Scary Movie (2000) itself as an example of how much better David Zucker is than Keenen Ivory Wayans. After seeing SM2, could it really be possible to save the series? Was there really any more point in adding another instalment? You'd imagine not. Well, David Zucker stepped in, abolised all that vile humour, and ended up doing a half-decent job with Scary Movie 3 (2003). It was still bad, you can't merely blame him for that, because after all, SM2 did kill off every single bit of potential it had for a wholly decent sequel. But when comparing all three films, SM3 stands out on its own as a tolerable attempt at the spoof genre.

Damn these people for screwing up a great genre. It's not right. The genre was never meant to be this way. You should've left it alone. Die!! The lot of you.

P.S. When I referred to Zucker, Abrahams, and Proft as "masters", it was an exaggeration. They have had their fair share of stinkers.

P.P.S. I still stand by that statement though, because compared to these new supposed spoof directors, those fellas are masters.

  2. Knowing that someone is actually trying to defend this film... you know what, I just might.
