"It started off well..." - a review by pearly

A bunch of different people experience "everyday" events in this 14 minute short. We start with a guy who spends each evening making owl calls, and listening to the owls respond. Over the fence, his neighbour spends each evening making owl calls, and listening to the owls respond. From there we move on to a bunch of unrelated stories, such as the woman who has the body of her dead mother buried in rubbish in her kitchen, the woman who has kidnapped her fourth washing machine repairman, because the machine never gets fixed, and the man who is obsessed with Claudia Schiffer and forces his parents to answer questions about her.

Everyday Something is a cute little film, but unfortunately, what started out as a good idea - kinda like a sketch comedy in vaguely the style of Monty Python's Flying Circus, went a bit wrong. The biggest problem with it is that it's all downhill after the first sketch. The owl sequence is funny, and sets the mood for the remainder of the film as being somewhat quirky. However, the rest of the sequences are all morbid in some way, meaning the first scene (the best of the bunch) doesn't fit in with the rest.

With a bit of switching around, and a couple of extra bits, this could have been a lot better, but unfortunately, it just didn't click.

pearly gives this movie 6 out of 10.
