"Confusing and unnerving" - a review by pearly

What was with the storyline in this movie? Where I come from, if a mother comes across a girl who raped her son, she doesn't then organise some kind of scheme to allow the girl back into the son's life. That's not just pear-shaped, it's crazy-talk.

Envy is about a family who are hounded by a gang of misfits after the mother steals back a dress of hers that was previously stolen by one of the gang (confused? I was, initially). To get revenge, one of the girls in the gang befriends the son, and then takes advantage of him. What follows is a bunch of mind games and attempted revenge-getting.

It stars Anna Lise Phillips as the "look mom, no bra!" girl, and Linda Cropper as the rather obsessive (in a Single White Female (1992) kinda way) mother. I'm not sure I really understand why it's called Envy, because I don't think anyone envied anyone else - I think they all just hated each other. For a somewhat throwaway movie, I found it to be pretty confusing, and in many ways, just stupid.

pearly gives this movie 3 out of 10.

  2. Actually, I totally agree with the first comment. The reason for my better rating is the quite good film music and the cute young male actor...

If I won 11 Best Achievement in Cinematography Oscars but Jack Palance accidentally read out Marisa Tomei's name when I won 3 of those Best Achievement in Cinematography Oscars, how many Best Achievement in Cinematography Oscars did I actually take home?
