"Not mind blowing, but nice enough" - a review by pearly

The House of Takemikazuchi is opposed to the monarchy which rule their country of Japan. They are a well known group of rebels, who must live in hiding to protect their own lives. Yuki (Yumiko Shaku) is the last surviving blood relative of the original House, but her position is not as high as it should be, due to some devious dealings. Yuki decides to go it alone rather, as her situation within the House seems hopeless. But her course leads to some unexpected events, as she meets up with a couple of kindred spirits.

The Princess Blade is along similar lines to films like House of Flying Daggers (2004). It is almost a dumbed-down version of this film, in all aspects. The plot isn't as epic, and the visuals aren't as stunning. I guess it's probably more like Zatôichi (2003). Nevertheless, I enjoyed this film more than I thought I would.

I wouldn't say that samurai type films are my favourite genre, but this film had more than just the battles between gangs. The love story was quite touching, and developed in a really nice way. This wasn't my favourite film of all time, but if you like the genre, then this one is probably worth a watch.

pearly gives this movie 6 out of 10.
