"Just another on the pile" - a review by pearly

By the time I watched Local Dive, having already seen five of Sarah Watt's short films in a row, I must admit that I was starting to get a little over it all. Watt seemed to be too focused on the same themes in each of her films, and it became too repetitive for me - an experience which wouldn't be quite the same if the films were not watched back to back. Again in this film, Watt explores somewhat alienated female characters, and uses water / swimming as their escape into a private world of calm.

Towards the end of the film, it becomes a little confronting, and it was a bit more than I could take. I felt that Watt's films were coming across as too negative, though I'm sure that's not what you're supposed to take away from them. Ready for a change of pace.

pearly gives this movie 6 out of 10.
