"SMOOOOOTH!" - a review by timchuma

Francis always seems to be getting into trouble at school. As well as being a charmer he is also a schoolyard gambler and his currency is candy. As supplies are limited, he comes up with an idea to knock over the local milk bar so that he can secure enough candy to last until high school.

To really enjoy this short film, it may help if you have seen Ocean's Eleven (2001) (the George Clooney version) as you will get more of the jokes. Even thought I haven't, I still really enjoyed this film as it was slick and funny.

I liked the set-up of the hit using candy bars to make a model of the place they were going to rob. Also the way they introduced the people who were going to be on their team was great.

There was only one on-screen adult character in the whole movie - the milk bar clerk. He played his role really well as he represented all the people who were against the kids' scheme (teachers, parents, police) and on top of that, he had some of the best lines in the movie - "Lousy kids!" etc.

What I also liked is how this movie showed the way kids solve problems by using the things that are familiar to them in creative ways (balloons, dolls, firecrackers, etc.). Even though they are pulling off an adult scheme, you can still believe there are kids behind it for that reason and the other techniques they employ.

I would recommend this movie to all the family, but unfortunately, I have no idea where you can get it from. Hopefully some of the stars of the big Hollywood movie it was based on will put it on a special release DVD as one of the extras.

timchuma gives this movie 9 out of 10.
