""What is a Christmas?"" - a review by timchuma

Hang up that mistletoe!
Soon you'll hear HO! HO! HO!
On Christmas Day
You'll wake up and you'll say
Hooray for Santy Claus!

S-A-N-T-A C-L-A-U-S
Hooray for Santy Claus!
You spell it S-A-N-T-A C-L-A-U-S
Hooray for Santy Claus!
Hooray for Santy Claus!

Hooray for Santy Claus!

Do you really need to hear anything else? It would be more fun to find out the joys of this movie for yourself, but it basically comes down to "MARS NEEDS SANTA CLAUS".

The leader of Mars, Kimar, seeing that his children are unhappy in the Mars month of "Septober", finds out that they are watching Earth TV signals, and decides to go and kidnap Santa Claus to cheer them up.

However, Voldar is not happy, and tries to thwart him at every turn. When they make it to Earth they kidnap Billy and Betty to help them find Santa Claus.

The rest of the movie follows the Martians' attempt to kidnap Santa Claus and what happens when they get him back to Mars.

The acting style, sets and costumes reminded me a lot of the TV series The Monkees for some reason. It is a lot more exaggerated though, and is better for it.

I have never seen anything like this movie and I have to say it is the best science fiction movie I have seen involving Santa Claus ever. When you think about it, Santa Claus is good in any situation, as he always reacts the same - HO! HO! HO! He is also able to disable killer robots by calling them a toy and to reverse Stockholm his captors.

The rest of the actors playing the Martians and the two Earth kids are great. My favourite is Voldar the evil Martian, as he has some of the best lines and overacts to perfection.

Although it would be best to watch this movie on Christmas Day, it is a great movie to watch whenever you feel like it.

timchuma gives this movie 10 out of 10.

  1. Congratulations Tim. You've managed to rate this film a 10, even though it rates as the 30th worst film ever according to the IMDb.

  2. If you're going to watch trash, you may as well enjoy it.

I used to buy a lot of videos from Trash Video in Brisbane before I got a DVD player.

I am going to buy Baby Geniuses 1 & 2 on DVD just so I can smash the DVDs (I'll wait until they reach the bargain bins.)

    Thanks.

  8. OK, I'll admit that I actually LIKED this movie when I was a brat during the late '60s-early '70s. Sure, as I grew older, i discovered how crappy it really is--as is most of the other stuff called 'kid fliks'.

Also as I grew older, I discovered the surefire way to sit thru this and live to tell about it.....it's the same way my dad and his crew did it thru 'Charlie Chan' and Mantan Moreland films:

    A SIX-PACK OF BUD!! (Haha!!)

I rate "Santa Claus Conquers The Martians" 3 six-packs!!

    (***BELCH!***) 'scuse me. ^_^

If I won 10 Best Supporting Actress Oscars but Jack Palance accidentally read out Marisa Tomei's name when I won 5 of those Best Supporting Actress Oscars, how many Best Supporting Actress Oscars did I actually take home?
