"An average triad movie" - a review by timchuma

This movie starts with Fei Cheung and his buddies, who include Fat Lion and his girlfriend Apple, trashing a bar to kill a gangster. After they escape in the van outside, Fei's girlfriend berates him for getting blood on her shoe. They go to see their boss who is washing a bus, then end up in a cafe where the boss goes on about his past life with the Triads. By the time he finishes, everyone has left.

Later in a nightclub, Fat Lion tries to crack on to a woman, only to be told that he has 'big tits', then a fight breaks out after the woman's boyfriend shows up. After Fei Cheung and the man 'take it outside', the big boss turns up and proceeds to beat them all up, however, he is impressed enough with Fei and his friends to ask to meet his boss.

The big boss' first job for them is to eliminate someone for him, which they do, but there is trouble when their boss is arrested and they have to go into hiding. Before he leaves, their boss tells them to go meet someone called Magic Lamp as he will look after them. He does this, but while they are drinking at a nightclub, they get into another fight with a gang member after he drops a shoe on their table from a great height and they refuse to 'give him face'. Fei and his friends try for two days to get back at him. After doing so, Fei is called to a board meeting of the triad gang and is given his 'punishment'.

Some time after this, Fei and his friends are hanging around the street and Fat Lion gets in trouble with 'Brother 19' from a rival gang for standing in the wrong place. Both gangs call for reinforcements and they end up having a fight on the bridge. This leads to more deals and more plot twists, but I'll let you see the rest yourself.

This is fairly average 'life of a triad' film. It's not a glamorous as Young and Dangerous, Part I (1996) and does seem realistic in the fact that the characters know that they're "just rascals", but there doesn't really seem to be much special about this film.

timchuma gives this movie 6 out of 10.
