"Quite the topic" - a review by pearly

After three years, and being over the other side of the world, it is still difficult to imagine what the people of New York went through on the day of September 11th 2001. This short documentary, Twin Towers goes some way towards an explanation.

Focussing on just a handful of people to tell their story as just an example of the overall impact of the terrorist act, Twin Towers began as a documentary filming the day-to-day exploits of a certain division of the NYPD, but on September 11, the film's direction changed.

Including candid interviews with John Vigiano, the documentary has become a tribute to his two sons: John Vigiano (junior), a firefighter, and, in particular, Joseph Vigiano, a police officer who was on of the men in the division being filmed initially, and was therefore known to all the other policemen, many of whom were also interviewed after the date, and gave their opinions on Joseph, as well as other people who died that day.

Both of John's sons died in service that day, and Twin Towers tells their story as a way of remembering, and as testament to the will of the American people. Not being American, the film did feel a bit like standing on the outside looking in, but at the same time, you cannot help but feel a little of what they are going through.

Twin Towers is a powerful and single message, and it is not at all surprising that, given its content, it won an Oscar.

pearly gives this movie 7 out of 10.
